About us

Who are we?

The Australian Alpaca Association was incorporated as a not-for-profit association in 1990 when participants in the fledgling industry recognised the need for a national body of like-minded people to promote and grow the concept of alpaca as a viable and sustainable primary industry.  The AAA is now a company limited by guarantee and has grown to represent and provide a voice to over 1,000 alpaca owners nationally.

The AAA runs one of the most internationally advanced alpaca registers of bloodlines and breeding predictors to generate continual improvement in our herd quality and worldwide reputation. The development of standards for the emerging meat and hide industry is now underway.

AAA is recognised by the Australian Government as the peak industry body for the alpaca industry in Australia and provides tools, information and support to bring owners together for the future of alpaca farming.

The association has eight regional committees that support the needs of local members through education, training, industry liaison, marketing and shows to promote the industry.

Our mission

To grow the Australian alpaca industry into one that is recognised as a sustainable and profitable agricultural enterprise for current and future farmers, through building domestic and international customer-driven markets and supply chains for Australian alpaca livestock, fibre and meat.

Our vision

To build a successful and sustainable alpaca industry in Australia
